Vision statement

 

At our school, science empowers students to discover the laws that govern our universe. We provide a knowledge-rich curriculum where students take pride in mastering complex theories and celebrating their growing fluency by conducting experiments and being rewarded by excellent academic outcomes. Our students flourish under the guidance of expert teachers who make them feel seen and supported, sharing their deep subject knowledge necessary to move from basic understanding to true subject mastery.

The more we know about the world, the more curious we become about it. We believe that a solid foundation of facts does not dampen wonder, but ignites it. Our students become confident to ask the "how" and "why," to explore challenging global ideas. This blend of ownership, expertise, and support ensures that every student sees science not just as a subject, but as a powerful tool for exploration, equity, and lifelong wonder.

The thing that helped me feel confident in Science lessons is:

  • “lots of mini whiteboard quizzes”

  • When a teacher draws diagrams under the visualiser to explain complicated concepts

 

The best thing about studying science is:

  • It’s ‘low key’ interesting

  • Lots of experiments

  • Looking at my cheek cells under microscopes

 

The thing I didn't expect about studying science is:

  • That we get to learn about Cambrian explosion

 

A typical Science Lesson

 

  1. Our students start with a retrieval task about the previous topic they were taught.

  2. Miniwhite boards are used to engage content taught in the previous lesson to connect with what is about to be learnt.

  3. New vocabulary is taught explicitly

  4. Content is introduced by the teacher through blank canvas explanations, demonstrations or whole class reading.

  5. This is followed by mini white board questions to check our students' understanding or an experiment. 

  6. Then content is practiced through written tasks that increase in complexity over lessons and cycles
