Personal Development

Vision statement

Grounded in our four core values—ambition, dedication, kindness, and integrity—The Swan School's Personal Development Curriculum is designed to equip students with the skills and awareness needed to flourish, both at school and in later life. We aim to provide students with knowledge of the wider world as well as an understanding of how to navigate their own worlds and the issues that may affect them there. Our goal is for every student to leave feeling informed, safe, and ready for a successful adult life.

Our Students on Personal Development

Year 7:

  • ‘Personal Development helps me stay safe’

  • ‘I like having a class discussion’

Year 10:

  • The Personal Development sessions are very educational and useful for teenagers' everyday lives and lives beyond school'

Year 13:

  • ‘Personal Development sessions are a good chance to debate issues with my peer group’
  • ‘genuine help with life skills’

A typical Personal Development Lesson

Personal Development lessons are taught during tutor time. The lessons begin with a retrieval of key information from previous sessions. The body of the lesson will then feature a mixture of teacher-led information, class discussion, and short independent tasks where students apply their knowledge and thoughts from the lesson.
