Homework
KS3 Homework
Homework at The Swan School is simple, powerful, and meaningful. It is an integrated part of our curriculum, and supports students in consolidating the knowledge they have been introduced to in lessons.
Students in KS3 (years 7 - 9) are set two forms of homework:
-
Sparx: Maths, Science and Reader
-
Swan Lexicon
Sparx Maths, Science and Reader
-
These homeworks are completed online: Sparx Maths, Sparx Science and Sparx Reader.
-
Each of these is set on Thursday morning, and is due to the following Wednesday by 8pm.
-
These are set and checked by Maths, Science and English teachers, respectively.
-
Sparx provides highly personalised homework to students, tailored to their individual attainment level and working speed. Students receive immediate feedback for each question about whether their answer was correct or they need to have another try. They earn rewards for completion and effort.
-
You can support your child by checking in with their progress. Families should receive an automated weekly email from Sparx telling you how much of each homework they have completed so far.
Swan Lexicon
-
This homework aims to help students master their Core Vocabulary: the most important words and their meanings in each subject. This enables students to fully understand the subject they are studying and express their own ideas about it.
-
Swan Lexicon is set and checked by tutors on a Friday and completed in a booklet.
-
Each week, students complete increasingly challenging tasks to build their mastery of the Core Vocabulary.

Homework Club
-
We run an after-school Homework Club to provide a supervised space for students to complete their homework.
-
At Homework Club students can use school Chromebooks to complete their Sparx and receive help from staff.
-
Homework Club runs after school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 15:00 - 16:00 in N206.
