Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND)

At The Swan School, we believe that every student has the potential to master challenging content. We are a truly inclusive school, dedicated to ensuring all students thrive regardless of their background, previous experiences, or personal circumstances.

Our Philosophy: High Standards for All

We don't lower the bar for students with barriers to learning; instead, we provide the support they need to reach it. Our primary strategy is "Quality First Teaching"—ensuring that daily classroom delivery is of the highest standard so that every student can succeed in a mainstream environment.

Our Five Pillars of Support

When a student falls behind or requires additional help, our staff take a proactive, evidence-based approach to close the gap. We support our students in five key ways:

  • Uncompromising Expectations: We maintain the highest standards for every student, refusing to make excuses based on their challenges.

  • Instilling Dedication: We teach our students the value of hard work, helping them understand that dedication is the key to overcoming obstacles.

  • Individualised Strategies: We ensure every staff member is fully aware of each student's specific learning needs and the most effective techniques to support them.

  • Targeted Re-teaching: Our teachers dedicate time to identifying misconceptions early, allowing them to "re-teach" core concepts and eliminate learning gaps.

  • Expert Interventions: Our teachers and Accelerated Learning Champions deliver precision-planned interventions to individuals or small groups, constantly monitoring their impact to ensure progress.

Early Literacy & Numeracy

We know that strong foundations are essential. If a student shows lower-than-expected levels of literacy or numeracy in their early years at The Swan School, we provide intensive, specialised teaching to remedy these gaps as quickly as possible.
