Swan Students Attend Policy-Making Workshop at Oxford University’s Blavatnik School of Government

On Friday 22nd May, a group of seven A-Level Politics students were lucky enough to attend a policy-making workshop at the University of Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government. They took part in a day of sessions run by a multinational group of students studying for the Master of Public Policy.

The Swan students first had an introductory talk from the Dean of the Blavatnik School, Ngaire Woods. Afterwards, working in mixed teams alongside students from Cherwell, Marlborough, Matthew Arnold, and Blessed Hugh Faringdon Schools, they learned about Sustainable Development Goals, before having the chance to create their own for an allocated fictional country.

Following an excellent lunch, where the students networked with the BSG’s staff and students, as well as their fellow school students, the teams split up and worked with other groups in order to try to form a consensus on which goals should be adopted.

The students say they had an “engaging and stimulating experience” at the event. Year 12 student Mariam says:

“The Blavatnik trip was a new and fun event, I’ve never done anything quite like it. It was informative and great for networking and insight into a career in politics.”

It was fantastic to see our students represent Swan School Sixth Form so brilliantly!
